Meet Ana Franco , a visionary whose journey into the world of data centers wasn’t just a career choice—it was a calling. With a background that didn’t initially align with technology, her pivotal moment came in 2012, during the inauguration of KIO, where they were captivated by the vision of Sergio Rosengaus. From that single meeting, a deep passion for the unseen backbone of our digital world was born, leading to a remarkable career dedicated to advancing the infrastructure that powers modern life.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ana Franco is also the author of The Great Data Center Adventure, a nonprofit children´s book that brings the hidden world of data centers to life for young readers. A proud mother of two young daughters, Ana´s mission? To spark curiosity and inspire the next generation to engage with the critical technology shaping our future.
In today’s conversation, we’ll explore their insights on the future of technology in business, the personal mantra that fuels their resilience, and their journey to becoming a trailblazer in an industry that remains largely invisible yet utterly essential. - Tell me a little bit about your background and how you ended up choosing your field.
Ana Franco: My background wasn’t initially in data centers or even technology. Before 2012, I hadn’t really thought about what keeps our digital world running behind the scenes. My career path took an unexpected turn when I attended the inauguration of KIO and met Sergio Rosengaus, founder. That moment was eye-opening; I hadn’t realized the critical role that data centers play in supporting everything from communications to entertainment and essential services.
Sergio’s journey, building KIO from scratch and eventually selling it to a top private equity firm, was inspiring. His vision and dedication is inspiring. That meeting sparked a genuine passion, and I knew I wanted to be part of an industry that powers so much of modern life. From that day forward, I committed myself to learning everything I could about data centers and the essential infrastructure that keeps our digital lives connected.
This experience also inspired me to write The Great Data Center Adventure, a book for young readers. My goal with the book is to spark curiosity in kids, introducing them to the hidden world of data centers and helping them appreciate the incredible technology that quietly supports their everyday digital experiences.
- How do you think technology will affect the way we do business 10 years from now?
In the next decade, I believe technology will reshape business in profound ways. AI, automation, and data analytics are advancing rapidly, and this will drive data centers to support more complex and powerful applications. To keep up, businesses will need both strong, sustainable infrastructure and the openness to embrace continuous change.
In my view, success in this future will depend on two things: reliable power and a forward-looking approach. We’re moving toward a world where technology doesn’t just support business, it drives it. For me, it’s both exciting and challenging to think about what lies ahead. Innovations in AI, renewable energy, and advanced cooling will transform data centers and the businesses that rely on them, demanding adaptability, resilience, and a commitment to evolve with the times.
- What is the one mantra that you live your life by?
The mantra I live by is simple: “Keep going, no matter the challenge, and build strength with every step.” For me, this is a reminder that progress isn’t always easy or straightforward. Life and work come with their share of obstacles, but I truly believe that each challenge helps us grow a little stronger and learn a little more.
It’s not about always knowing the path ahead; it’s about moving forward, step by step, even when things feel tough. This perspective has helped me in difficult times and reminded me to keep pushing forward, one step at a time. Every small effort adds up, and over time, it’s those steady steps that make a lasting difference.
- What is The Great Data Center Adventure all about?
The Great Data Center Adventure is a nonprofit book for young readers, designed to pull back the curtain on one of the most critical parts of our digital world: data centers. Imagine helping kids understand that every video they stream, every game they play, and every message they send depends on these powerful infrastructures working silently in the background. This book isn’t just about teaching technology; it’s about inspiring the next generation to see the magic happening behind their screens.
The data center industry is facing a talent shortage, and as our digital world keeps expanding, we’ll need bright, curious minds to build and maintain this vital backbone. My goal is simple: if I can ignite a spark in just a few young readers and get them excited about the possibilities within this hidden world, that’s a huge win.
