What Is LiteBlue USPS?

LiteBlue is the official self-service web portal for United States Postal Service employees. It’s the secure gateway at liteblue.usps.gov where more than 640,000 career and non-career USPS employees manage payroll, benefits, career development, and human resources tasks.

3. Multifactor Authentication MFA Is Now Mandatory
Since Jan 15, 2023, USPS requires MFA for all LiteBlue logins. MFA is an identity verification method where you provide two or more confirmation factors, like a password + a code from your phone. 

When you log in, you’ll set up MFA preferences. These factors are then required every time you log in. 

Forgot MFA or Got a New Phone?
Employees can now reset their own MFA. Click “Self-Service MFA Reset” on the login screen. After a manager approves, you’ll get an email link to set up, update, or recover an MFA method. If you have problems, call the USPS IT Service Desk at 800-877-7435.

LiteBlue Security: The 2022 Breach & How USPS Fixed It

In October 2022, cybercriminals launched fake LiteBlue sites and used stolen credentials to change direct deposit info. 368 employees were victims in Pay Period 26 alone. USPS recovered about $322,000, but employees also lost money. 

A USPS Office of Inspector General OIG report found the Chief Information Security Officer did not take all critical steps, including mandating MFA and deploying mandatory security training.

Using LiteBlue on Mobile: Tips for iPhone & Android

The Sept 14 redesign made LiteBlue responsive, meaning it adapts to your phone or tablet screen. Before the redesign, the last major overhaul was in 2004.

1. “I can’t log in after getting a new phone”
Your MFA method is tied to your old device. Use Self-Service MFA Reset. If that fails, call 800-877-7435. 

2. “I never got my temporary password”
Since Feb 5, new hires get EIN, temp PIN, and temp password by encrypted email before day one. Check spam. If missing, request a letter be mailed home. 

3. “The site looks different”
LiteBlue had a major redesign Sept 14 with new sections and a Resource Index. It’s responsive for mobile now. 

4. “I clicked a suspicious link”
Immediately change your SSP, check ePayroll for deposit changes, and report to cybersafe@usps.gov
